John Retires from Parish Ministry

Article date: 21 April 2025

Sunday, 20th April, was our minister John’s last service before he retires from parish ministry. John has been the minister at Cadder for the last 8 years, and he and his wife, Susan, have been a huge blessing to us during this time.

Cadder has grown to what it is today thanks to John’s vision, leadership and ability to reach out and connect with people. He has been instrumental in developing the Cadder Growth Teams, based on the 5 Marks of Mission, and has worked tirelessly to support and nurture these teams. They manage all aspects of our church life, and their work has resulted in the busy and vibrant church community that we have today.

Whilst we are sad to see John and Susan leave Cadder, we give thanks for their service and dedication to serving God and our church community, and for leaving us in a very healthy position!

Although retiring from parish ministry, John will be taking up the role of pastoral assistant at St Paul’s Church of Scotland in Milngavie and Baldernock from 1st June. We wish him every success in his new role.

We will invite John and Susan back in the autumn to say a proper thank you and farewell. Details will be shared on the website when confirmed.

Going Forward

Discussions are now underway on the next steps for ministry at Cadder. This process will take some time, but updates will be shared in church and on our website when we have news to share. In the meantime, we’ll welcome visiting ministers each Sunday to lead us in worship.

Cadder Church Celebrates Bi-Centenary

Article date: 1st April 2025

2025 is a special year in the history of Cadder Church as we mark the bi-centenary of the present building.

Although the current building came into use in 1825, the site on Cadder Road near the canal has actually been a place of worship for almost 900 years.

Rev. John MacGregor, the current minister at Cadder, said:

‘’Those who worship at Cadder each Sunday are rightly proud of their church building; great love and care goes into its upkeep.

But there is also another aspect to the building and that is its spiritual dimension.

The site has been soaked in worship and prayer for the best part of 900 years and it is still the cradle that holds our worship together.’’

A number of events are being organised throughout 2025 to mark the bi-centenary, the first of which is a special concert on Friday 4th April.

Details of that plus other events as they are confirmed will appear on the calendar page.
